Time was when Education and Learning were viewed as s phase in a person’s life not unlike a rite of passage where a child begins a cycle at a certain age and goes through a series of lessons and examinations. After some years, the person emerges at the other and to join the world of work and become a productive citizen operating in the “real” world. In examining this perhaps overly simplistic view of the education process, the boundary between becomes quite apparent. It also suggest two worlds that are quite apart. With learning and education having taken lifelong and life-wide dimensions, new and innovative approaches to delivery of educational sector. As educators and mediators of learning, our task and concerns do not really end with the classroom. We view our task as that of preparing the future generations to be able to viably operate in a challenging and fast-faced environment. In a country with a young and considerably getting younger population preparing our students is a major challenge and demands every bit of effort not only from us in the education sector but all the stakeholders in education and learning. In our drive to improve quality of learning, DepEd embarked on a extensive pilot for a new Basic Education Curriculum, the K to 12 program, which is on its pilot implementation this academic year. The insights gained from the pilot implementation should guide K to 12 implementators downstream process improvements. As we are consolidating best practices and reviewing results, there is a need to maintain and make our best efforts to accelerate appications of current technologies for making improvements in the teaching learning process. We hope to offer greater scope for putting learning experiences in a more familiar context for better learning outcome, knowing that learning and knowledge can dispel a number of seemingly insurmountable concerns.
