The World Tourism Day (WTD) is held annually every 27th of September. Its purpose is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. The event seeks to address global challenged outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to highlight the contribution the tourism sector can make in reaching these goals.
In celebration of World Tourism Day, the Bachelor of Science in Tourism
Management department had organized an affair to celebrate the event. They showcased the Philippine tourism through Philippine Destination Exhibit, Food Expo of different Philippine delicacies & gastronomy and cultural presentations. The theme of the said event was “Fiesta Filipinas: Savouring and Accessing to the Culture of the Philippines” which was anchored in the World Tourism Day theme which was “Tourism for All-Promoting Universal Accessibility”. This was held at St. Alexius College campus on September 27, 2016, Tuesday, from 8:00 am – 5:00pm.
The occasion was participated by the BS Tourism Students of St. Alexius College who performed different cultural dances in the Philippines such as Ifugao Dance, Tausug dance which is known as “Dayang-dayang”, and Maguindanaon Dance. This was also attended by visitors from T’boli, South Cotabato who presented their own cultural dance. The B’laan dance was also performed
by the visitors from Bacongco National High School. The 3 members of T’boli tribe from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato were also present in the said event who as well performed their tribal dance. The affair highlighted the symposium with the Tourism Officer of Lake Sebu, Mr. Rodel Hilado,RSW as the resource person. The participants were able to acquire experiential-based knowledge given by the speaker. The event is another success in achieving the goal of providing appropriate education to the students by giving them a hands-on learning experience.
