On September 11, 2016 at 2:00 PM a joint celebration of the Medical Technology Week and the 25th Anniversary of PAMET SOCSKARGEN with the theme “Empowering Medical Technologists towards Global Advancement” started with a mass. The mass, led by Reverend Father Mario Cutab, was conducted to bless the newly elected PAMET- SOCSKARGEN officers, the outgoing PAMET-SOCSKARGEN officers and to serve as a thanksgiving mass for passers of the September 2016 Medical Technology board exam. Aside from the PAMET members, in attendance also were the students and faculty from St. Alexius College, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University and Notre Dame of Marbel University.
The opening program for the week long celebration was formally started when Ms. Janine Teza Villena,RMT, gave her open remarks to an eager crowd of students and professionals. She was soon followed by the Executive Vice-President of SAC, Mr. John Thomas Franco,RN,MAN. The Executive Vice-President welcomed all the participants and even encouraged the students present. One of the highlights of the program ended around 6:00PM with a bounty of foods served for all.
The remaining days before the September 15, 2016 was for the preparation of the medical technology student for their displays during the Microbiology World in SAC and Parasitology Safari in NDMU; and the preparation for the research forum.
On September 15, 2016, posters, tarpaulins and mini-ecosystem related to Microbiology and Parasitology were already displayed along the corridor near the Medical Technology Laboratory. Each display showed different microorganisms and the diseases that they cause. Any question pertaining to the display by other students, teachers and visitors were answered by Medical Technology students. Aside from the displays, the Medical Technology students also distributed giveaways and pamphlets with information on different parasites. At around 1:30 PM, Medical Technology students and faculty were gathered in the SAC-AVR to witness the research presentation of Mr. Michael Malaluan, on “The Use of Urine to Prevent Soil-Transmitted Helminthiases” and Dr. Mary Mae Cheung, RMT on . After each presentation, the audience was given a chance to throw their questions in relation to the researches and these were answered confidently by the speakers. In addition, Dr. Cheung also shared how to choose a topic for a research and gave guideline in making presentations. Furthermore, she showed us that doing a research study can be a fun experience too. The research forum was ended with the closing remarks from Ms. Crisea Lei de Leon, RMT.
